You really need to use patched A4S4 to get the latest fixes etc,īut an encoder can be checked in the mean time. If the mount starts and stops slewing on command in both directionsĪnd doesnt give a motor unit fault, it sounds like an intermittent encoder fault.Īs you have A4S2, i dont have full info ( as that was outdated fairly quickly ) I did snug the azimuth clutch slightly, because it was slipping. If i could figure out where the encoder for the azimuth drive is, I might try "dusting " it off. I've been at this for a couple of weeks and it's making me nuts. The previous owner (our Club President) claims he only used it a couple of times and never had any problems. No matter what I do, this thing seems to think it is an ETX fork mounted scope. slews to the correct altitude, but the azimuth motor just keeps turning the mount around and around The instructions on LED the handset refer to "ETX","rotating the mount counterclockwise and then clockwise" until the "fork arm is over the control panel".None of this applies to my mount. The easy align brings up Arcturus, The Alt. I assume this tells the hand control (497 A452) that I am using a "bare" mount. Selected the LX65 as the telescope option (since I'm not using a Meade scope). I have done a factory reset, checked that all of the settings are correct. The manual slewing buttons work just fine. I have a Meade LX65 that I recently swapped for. I have taken some photos but I am not sure how to send them on this site, I could send them by email ? regards Brian Banbury Well mine showed a Big gap, so I am wondering if all the Jumping of the drive has made a small gear jump out of its bearing? I am not too keen on opening the gearbox up as all the contents look pretty full in there. The LX90 article said that the casing was difficult to open and needed a thin knife blade to open it. The other 2 screws have screwed the casing properly. More Importantly the gearbox casing has been put together wrongly, that is a washer has been put in-between the casing ,each side, where the Encoder is. However I believe that somebody else may have been before me ,because I found 3 out of the 6 screws missing in the Bottom large Gear. No spiders were found ah! but the Encoder was clear ,no grease or dust. Owing to the wonderfully clear pics and instruction on the site you recommend ,I took the plunge and stripped down the LX90 this afternoon. I will be Very Grateful for any help with this. I do not know how to take this mount apart ,are there any guides on the website to help?įeeling Sad that this Pride & Joy of mine has become unusable. So, Has Mechanical damage been done ,or is it a problem with the computers? Traversing Right seems Fine too.Īfter setting it OTA to North, Dead Horizontal,it will slew anywhere. It jumps every so often ,and is not smooth at all. I Have Reset and Calibrated the Motors, and Retrained the Gears Carefully several times, which has improve the low speed movements but, althoughĭEC is Fine, Altazimuth has a Hiccup when I want to traverse Left ( which seems to be right) Direction when looking in the eyepiece. All this has upset the computers and it now goes Haywire when I try to Align. So I changed the lead to the longer Car version but powered by my 13volt adapter. Unfortunately, it started to strangle itself in the dark and go slowly before I could switch it off. It started to improve the locating of the 2 Stars and then, I forgot to use the Astronomical and Cord Wrap setting on a few occasions. In achieving alignment,I went for the Training Process. I bought the mount S/hand and in very good condition, set it up and undertook all the Alignment procedures. Now, I would Really Appreciate some help myself, with regard to my Meade LX90 Mount ,in which I have mounted my Excellent LX10 OTA. I am New member, but have been following this interesting Site for many years with lots of great useful ideas in the Q& Answers.
